señor de la columna (2024)
The faithful families living in San Miguel de Allende spend months preparing the materials needed to decorate the streets for a procession, in which el Señor de la Columna is carried 12 kilometers in pilgrimage, from its sanctuary in Atotonilco. Around twelve hours before dawn, the streets smell of chamomile and herbs, while being covered with tinted sawdust, sand, grains, flowers and petals, all forming textured and colorful carpets. Children are falling asleep, exhausted from their efforts, yet right by their families, joining them in what's one of the most important moments of the year. I had the chance to presence this divine gathering while doing a creative residence at MADE.
